Beef Stew

Ingredients

1.2 litres of boiled water
1/2 swede cut into small chunks
3 carrots
mushrooms
steak cut into chunks
2 tea spoons of thyme
3 to 4 beef stock cubes
some black pepper - not too much
splash of worcestershire sauce if you have any,optional.

Preparation

Its very easy to cook, add whatever extra vegetables you want .
Melt some butter in a pan and cook the steak until tender.
Boil the vegetables on low heat until desired consistency.
Simmer on a low heat and add the beef stock.
After 20 minutes add the beef and leave on a low simmer so the sauce thickens.
Serve with crusty bread to dip into the stew.

English breakfast

Ingredients

 sausages
 eggs
 black pudding
 ripe tomotoes 
 bread
 mushrooms
 bacon
 tomato ketchup or brown sauce- optional

Preparation

Well we know this is not the healthiest meal but its a delicious treat. Its not rocket science to cook either.
Just add a little oil to a pan and start with the sausages. Its all fried or you can grill the bacon, mushrooms or tomato.
Fry the eggs last and serve on one big plate. A great way to start the day.

Victoria Sandwich cake

175g (6oz) English butter

175g (6oz caster sugar

3 eggs beaten

175g (6oz ) self-raising flour

30 ml (2 level table spoon ) jam

caster sugar to dredge.

 

1 Butter two 18 cm (7 inch ) sandwich tins & line the base of each with a round of buttered grease proof paper.

2 Beat the butter & sugar together until pale & fluffy. add the eggs a little at a time ,beating well after each addition,fold in half the flour, using a metal spoon then fold in the rest.

3 Place half the mixture in each tin & level with a knife.

4 Bake in the oven at 190 c (375 f) mark for about 20 minutes, until they are well risen,firm to the touch & beginning to shrink away from the sides of the tins. Turn out & cool on a wire rack.

5 When the cakes are cool, sandwich them together with jam & sprinkle the top with caster sugar.

6 Add whipped cream if you wish.
